The environmental field is incredibly diverse, and so are the career opportunities available to graduates with a B.S. in Environmental Science. Whether you're interested in working outdoors, in a lab, with communities, or in policy, there's a path for you. Below are some broad categories of careers in the field. This list isn't exhaustive—but it gives you a sense of the many directions you can go.
Work with the public to raise awareness about environmental issues and promote solutions. Opportunities can be found with nonprofit organizations, government agencies, parks, outdoor education centers, and more.
Tackle environmental challenges through pollution monitoring, habitat restoration, site assessments, environmental planning, modeling, and more. These roles are often found in consulting firms, water and wastewater facilities, government agencies, and some nonprofits.
Focus on the political and legal sides of environmental issues. This can include lobbying, technical writing, data collection and analysis, and supporting regulations or litigation efforts.
Get hands-on with nature through species surveys, habitat assessments, and ecological research. These jobs are typically offered by consulting firms and government agencies.
